The bus was going from Los Angeles to Sacramento on Highway 99 when it suddently encountered a disabled vehicle at about 2 a.m. A Chevy Trailblazer had flipped over in a single-vehicle accident. The bus veered to avoid hitting the SUV, and instead struck a car and went off the road.

The bus then hit a concrete center divider and then a eucalyptus tree, and stopped. This all took place at the McKinley Avenue off-ramp.

Five people were dead inside the bus, which carried 47 passengers, and one died later at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles Times. It also reported that four other people suffered major injuries and were in critical condition and six had minor injuries. 

Police closed the northbound lanes of Highway 99 at Olive Avenue as they went on with their investigation.

The multi-vehicle crash took place when a woman driving an Acura sedan pulled out right in front of an ambulance that was racing down West 125th Stree shortly before noon.

One witness told the New York Daily News that the woman didn’t hear the FDNY ambulance’s siren because she was talking on a cellphone. 

The ambulance tried to manuever out of the woman’s way. But it still ran into the Acura and then hit a municipal city bus at the intersection of 125th Street and Adam Clayton Power Boulevard. Then an SUV hit the bus.     

The injured were taken to local hospitals, but didn’t appear to have serous injuries.

It wasn’t known where the Acura driver would be charged for the collision. 

Ruth Lynady, 72, was thrown out of the bus she was driving Tuesday in the accident in Ararat, Pa., which is in Susquehanna County.

Her husband William Lynady was driving the other bus involved in the crash, according to state police. The husband was in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The family of the Lynadys, who lived in Clarks Summit, Pa., confirmed their relationship, according to the Associated Press.

The Lynadys were both driving their buses to a local camp, and they didn’t have any passengers aboard.

The bus was traveling from Chinatown in Manhattan to bring gamblers to the Atlantic City casinos. It came to a line of vehicles that had stopped on Route 40 in Atlantic City, and the unidentified bus driver slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the cars ahead.

 The bus then struck a center divider, hit a car and struck a concrete retaining wall on the bridge, which is when the driver was thrown through the windshield. The bus then actually rolled over the driver and continued moving, skidding about 100 feet until it stopped. 

The bus driver was in critical condition in the trauma unit at Atlantic City Medical Center.

The hurt bus passengers suffered only minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals following the accident, which took place around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The 26 passengers who went through the crash uninjured went on to the Tropicana Casino and Resort.

The bus that was involved  in the crash is owned by Sun Lee Blue in Brooklyn.

Lauren Magee and Tom Hanley were among 14 people who were hurt about 2 p.m. Saturday in Indianapolis when the shuttle bus carrying them and their wedding party to take pre-wedding photos got into an accident, colliding with a sport utility vehicle.

Wedding party member James Douglas, 29, was killed.

According to eyewitness reports, the driver of the shuttle bus ran a red light, causing the fatal accident. The shuttle bus was knocked on its side buring the crash.

Despite that tragedy, Magee and Hanley went forward with their wedding, which took place at the hospital where they  and half of their injured wedding party were taken for treatment, Methodist Hospital. The hospital set up a conference room for the ceremony.

The seven wedding party members who were treated at Wishard Memorial Hospital were transported to Methodist Hospital for the ceremony,  along with 100 others. Many of those guests had been set to attend the wedding at its original location, a downtown Indianapolis event center.

The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, on East Westmoreland Street, according to authorities.

The bus was driving down Westmoreland and then overturned, flipping over a number of  times. The bus’s back end was ripped off during the accident.

There were 21 people hurt in the rollover, according to police, with two of them taken to the hospital in critical condition.

 There was no information on the cause of the accident.

The accident took place on Chicago Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side shortly after 4 p.m., a CTA spokeswoman told the Sun-Times.

The bus was carrying 12 passengers, as well as the driver.

One witness said that a black SUV caused the crash. The SUV driver, apparently trying to pass a slow-moving car, sped up and got into the lane that the bus was in. The witness said that the bus driver swerved to avoid hitting the SUV, and the bus then struck a car and went in into the school.

Ambulances took 12 people to the hospital. Two, the bus driver and the driver of the car that was hit,  were reported in serious to critical condition. Nine of the victims were in fair to serious condition, and a final one was good to fair.

The building that the bus crashed into is the Rowe-Clark Math and Science Academy. No one was in the school when the accident took place.

 Mark Caton, the father of one of the surviving victims, in an interview said that the public bus had essentially “mowed down” the victims. His daughter Jamie Hammel, her husband, Ryan, Ryan’s sister and two friends had gone out last Saturday night to a comedy club.  

The accident happened at a crosswalk at Northwest Glisan Street and Broadway, one block away, approaching Ryan Hammel’s car when “the bus mowed them over,” according to Caton

Hammel and her husband were struck by the side of the bus. But Ryan Hammel’s sister Jenee Hammel, 26, of Gresham, and Danielle Sale, 22, of Vancouver, were hit head on. The two of them were killed.

Robert E. Gittings, 22, of Idaho, was in serious condition at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

 The TriMet bus was making turning from westbound Gilsan Street onto southbound Broadway when the bus hit the group of pedestrians who were crossing Broadway.

Speed wasn’t a factor in the crash and the bus driver, Sandi Day, 28, was cooperating with investigators. Day was uninjured in the crash. The accident is under investigation, with no arrests or citations issued yet.

 Jenee Hammel’s family held and a candle light memorial for her earlier in the week at the site of the fatal accident.

 After being hit by that first bus, Whitsett was then pinned against another Muni bus, that one driven by Cedric Geegan.

 Whitsett had to be extricated, and was brought to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died.

 As part of standard Muni procedure, both Johnson and Geegan were given drug and alcohol tests and were placed on non-driving status.

 The accident, which is under investigation, was the first Muni-related fatality so far this year.

 The school bus was traveling on Route 53 near Zarley Road, on its way to Laraway Elementary School in Joliet, when the driver lost control and the bus landed in a ditch.

 The bus’s driver, Jeffrey Baranski, 63, was taken to the hospital with facial injuries. There were 29 children on the bus, and nine were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Their injuries were not serious.

 Baranski was cited by police with failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and failing to wear a seat belt.

 He was driving the bus north on Route 53 when he tried to turn around to go south. But while attempting the turn he lost control of the bus, which went into a ditch in a center median.
