At least 34 people were injured early Saturday morning when a Greyhound bus in western Ohio struck a tree and turned over on its side, according to The Indy Channel.

The accident took place around 4 a.m. on Interstate 75, not far from Cincinnati, in Liberty Township, Ohio.

The Butler County Emergency Operations Center said that 34 people were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe. Twenty eight were taken by ambulance and six by helicopter, authorities said.

The bus was en route from Cincinnati to Detroit, and it had 51 passengers and the driver on-board.

The crash is under investigation, but a bus passenger interviewed by The Indy Channel said that right before the crash the driver was slumped over the wheel, as if asleep or having a medical problem. A female passenger yelled “Wake up!,” but it was too late.

The bus veered off the road, hit a tree, rolled over at least twice and ended up in a cornfield, the witness said.
