Nine Hospitalized After Tampa Bus Crash

Nine people were injured Monday in Tampa, Fla., when a county bus and a car collided, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Juan Washington, 48, was driving a Hillsborough Area Regional Transit bus when he turned in front of a a Volvo driven by Johny Ngoc Giang, 20. The bus was traveling south on 56th Street and then turned into a park-and-ride, hitting Giang’s sedan.

The bus was thrown into a concrete sign, the Tampa Bay Times reported, which crashed in the driver’s area of the bus.  Responders got Giang out of his car by cutting off its roof.

Washington was cited for making an illegal left turn, the newspaper said.

The drivers of both vehicles were injured and hospitalized, as were seven bus passengers.
